Home / About Us

Thirty-five years of quiet, steady work with the children of this valley.

RP School began with a founder's belief that the children of Kashmir deserved a sound and caring education. This page shares something of that history, and of what continues to guide us.

Our Purpose

What we try to stand for.

Our Mission

To educate the whole child, not the exam alone.

We try to give every student in our care a sound academic foundation, a genuine interest in learning, and the character to act with integrity, whatever their circumstances. We think about our work not only in terms of results, but in the kind of adults our students go on to become.

Looking Ahead

A school that continues to grow with care.

We hope, in the years ahead, to bring computer-assisted learning and our STEM and robotics programme to every grade, while keeping the same attention to each child that has guided us so far. We would like an education from RP School to be something families can rely on, wherever a student's path leads next.

Our Values

Five things we try to hold to.

Integrity

We try to say what we mean, to parents and students alike.

Diligence

We try not to settle for less than our best effort, in ordinary work as much as in special occasions.

Respect

We try to listen to every child and every parent, rather than simply manage them.

Curiosity

We try to welcome a child's questions rather than hurry past them.

Community

We recognise that our work here depends on the trust the valley continues to place in us.

Our History

Thirty-five years, briefly.

A few of the milestones along the way.

1990

Founded

Opened with 60 students and four teachers in a rented building near Baghat, Srinagar.

1998

Own Campus

Moved into our first purpose-built campus, doubling enrolment within two years.

2004

JK BOSE Affiliation

Received full JK BOSE affiliation through Grade 10, formalising our academic framework.

2011

Middle Wing Expansion

Extended facilities to support Grades 6โ€“10 with dedicated subject labs.

2017

Smart Classrooms

Became the first school in the valley to fit interactive panels across every section.

2023

STEM & Robotics Lab

Opened a dedicated robotics and coding lab, now central to our Grade 6โ€“12 curriculum.

2026

35 Years

The school now serves around 2,400 students, thirty-five years after it first opened its doors in Srinagar.

Leadership

A few words from those who lead the school.

Mr. Ghulam Rasool Khan
Founder
โ€œ

In 1990, I felt Kashmir needed a school that believed in its children. I started RP School with sixty students and a simple conviction โ€” that discipline and warmth belong together in the same classroom, not on opposite sides of it.

Thirty-five years later, I still walk the corridors most mornings. What I see there gives me hope: children who are curious, teachers who care, and families who have continued to place their trust in us.

Ashiq Hussain Mir
Chairman
โ€œ

My responsibility is to look after what was built here, and to prepare the school for the years ahead โ€” through investment in smart classrooms, in teacher training, and in a campus our families can be proud of.

It also means a degree of caution: we try to grow only as fast as we can maintain the standard of care we owe each child. Any new section or new lab is first tested against a single question โ€” will this genuinely serve the child in front of us?

Dr. Nusrat Bhat
Principal
โ€œ

I ask every new teacher to do one simple thing: learn each child's name within a week, and something true about them within a month. In our experience, results tend to follow when a child feels genuinely known.

We do not think of our work as preparing children for examinations alone. We hope to send into the world young people from Kashmir who carry with them both discipline and warmth, ready for whatever comes next.

Campus Philosophy

A few ways our beliefs shape the campus.

01

Small Group Learning

We keep class sizes below the JK BOSE maximum, so that no student goes unnoticed for long.

02

Nature-Integrated Design

Our grounds are framed by the school's own chinar trees โ€” a daily, physical reminder of where we are.

03

Open-Door Leadership

Staff, students, and parents may visit the Principal's office during school hours without needing an appointment.
